I am by no means a morning person, nor am I a night owl. There is nothing particularly great about the afternoon. No mysterious force draws me to the midday, or the early evening. In every twenty-four hour period there are countless ups and downs, and I can't bring myself to pick one time of day that I like the best. Thus, I classify myself as an "all day" person.
I love to watch the sunrise. I like to sit in a canoe on a quiet lake in the early morning and listen to loons and watch fish jump in the distance. I like to cook breakfast and eat it outside in an early morning breeze while perusing a magazine. Morning is a peaceful time, where everything should be soft and quiet, the graceful dip of the paddle in the water, the little pop of the toaster, the wind ruffling up the leaves, or the gentle turn of a magazine page.
I love to be lazy in the late morning and early afternoon. I like to sit on the couch in my pajamas and watch Grey's Anatomy with a cup of tea, not doing anything, not wanting or feeling like I need to do anything. As waking up to watch the sunrise usually results in a headache, this time of day usually brings an ibuprofen and maybe a quick nap.
I love to be "out on the town" in the afternoon. The afternoon makes me feel like I should be doing something. For me, it symbolizes activity. I don't mean hardcore partying in all of Chambana's hot spots, just being in a car. I like to go to the store, to the bank, or to a restaurant for a late lunch. I like to ride horses in the afternoon. I like to see my friends.
I won't say I love to be busy in the evening, because I don't, but I inevitably will be. While the afternoon is usually about frivolous activity, the evening, for me anyway, is about getting things done: homework, cleaning, the un-fun things. I'm not one of those people that can be productive at 11 AM, I always do everything I need to in the evening. I don't like to run errands in the evening, I don't like to be out -- it's getting dark and scary, and to me that means stay inside.
I love to stay up late. I don' t like to stay up late working, I like to stay up late without a reason to stay up late. I like to sit on my bed and read, the Pride and Prejudice soundtrack playing softly in the background (Colin Firth version only, please). I like to eat popcorn in the basement and watch the end of a good movie with my mommy -- it makes me feel like I'm in a secret club. However, perhaps most often, I usually like to find myself sitting in front of my laptop in the dark, munching on Planter's mixed nuts, now more than 50% peanuts!
hahaha, my prime working time begins at about 10:00 pm. It's kind of sad.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I agree with a lot of those preferences although I'd take House over Grey's Anatomy but the overall feeling of laziness is the same.
Ah well, great post!
Great post! I love the idea of being an "all day" person. Sounds pretty lucky to me. I always call myself a night person because I hate getting up early and I like staying up late. But when I am up early, I love the early morning light, quiet, and peace.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I hate the night. I am not a night person, though, I will stay up late ONLY if there is a Gwyneth Paltrow movie playing on HBO.
ReplyDeleteI love the stillness that is present in the wee hours of the morning. Something about the notion of the world not being awake yet and getting a jump start before everyone else invigorates me. A typical day involves me getting up at 5:30 sharp and sitting at my dining room table sipping my first cup of coffee of the day while gazing lovingly at the calmness of the world. There is not a sound to be heard and I feel that I can finally be alone with my thoughts before the chaos of the day begins.
I completely agree. There are pluses and minus to all times of day, and it's really hard to pick one that I like. Mornings are terrible when you have to get up and do something, but if you're up early by choice, then it's like you're the only one awake in the world; very peaceful. However, nighttime is also great and it's fun to stay up with friends and have a great time, but on a school night after soccer practice, it would be a rare sight to see me awake after 10pm.
ReplyDeleteNicely written! I like how you went through every part of the day and said what you like about it. Nice job. :)
i actually feel as though I get most of my work done in the morning. By the end of the day my brain is so washed up that I just dont wanna do anything. However, i do concur that laziness is the best :D:D:D:D:D:D
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy the idea of the late morning with nothing that needs to be done. Unfortunately for me, I'm a night person so if theres nothing urgent in the morning, I'll just keep sleeping so I never get that experience. It's actually kind of stressful- I skip the relaxing part of the day and end up scurrying around the rest of the day trying to make up for lost time. Then I'm so tired I have to sleep in the next day and on goes my life.
ReplyDeleteI like sleeping when I get home from school till about 11-11:30. This way I can stay up all night if I need to knowing I've gotten a decent amount of sleep. Also it allows for you to focus more on what you need to do because there is no one to text and no one online to talk to.
ReplyDeleteIf you are an all day person when do you sleep 0.o
I also enjoy just staying up late, especially when I have no other work to do. Just watching a movie at 1 in the morning or eating anything edible in my refrigerator while listening to something random on my Ipod is, for me, fun.
ReplyDeleteGood post :)
I agree that staying up late without a reason to stay up late is great, but more often than not I find I do have a reason to put off sleep. Usually, homework. I find that even if I have all the time in the world earlier that day, I procrastinate and read or watch videos or just plain mess around, until night rolls around and I have to work. It seems I work better at night than during the day.
ReplyDeleteBut when I don't have work, and I'm free to do whatever I want, like in summer, what I do sounds a lot like what you described. Great post!
I loved when you mentioned watching a movie with your mom because my favorite part of the day is sitting in my mum's room while we watch something on TV together. I connected to quite a few of the feelings in this post. Great job.
